Intecolor Emulation
The TIW IMAGE-8820 provides the next step in industrial color graphics
terminal evolution by combining the versatility of the microcomputer with the most
complete emulation available of the Intercolor 8820/8810/8001 or HMW Rainbow terminals.
Operation on relatively low cost IBM PC or compatible microcomputers, this emulation
provides the functions standard with these terminals plus many of the features that are
usually additional cost options, such as: pixel graphics, multiple display pages,
downloadable displays, programmable function keys, and horizontal trending. Beyond
emulation, the IMAGE-8820 product provides capabilities that allow it to
be used more efficiently in applications not previously possible with standard industrial
terminals.
Sales/Demonstration Tool
One of the toughest aspects of selling or demonstration a software system designed to run
on a minicomputer is showing a potential customer what the software is going to look and
feel like. IMAGE-8820 and a stand-alone microcomputer, such as a laptop,
can be used as a sales/-demonstration tool. Using a display sequencing function called IMAGE
SCRIPT, a list of commands is executed in order to retrieve stored
displays/shapes, execute macros or invoke another IMAGE SCRIPT. This
allows free running demonstrations, slide shows or on-line message files to be created and
sequenced in any order desired.
Training/Documentation
Change is the only constant in this world and nowhere is that more true than when dealing
with computers. Finding time to train new people, keep staff current, document changes,
and update manuals is a never ending task. The IMAGE-8820 software and a
stand-alone microcomputer can serve as a training station, freeing users to become
familiar with the operation in a classroom environment on or off-site. In addition, IMAGE-8820
provides for hard copy documentation of displays by including built-in drivers for local
printers. A number of industry standard dot matrix, color and laser graphics printer are
supported.
The Future
Requirements change, hardware evolves, but nothing is more costly than discovering that
your software has become a dead end. IMAGE-8820 is intentionally designed
to be an evolutionary product in order to provide access to future state-of-the-art
technology while remaining compatible with the present. TIW Technology, Inc. is also
available to provide modifications to IMAGE-8820. Emulation,
communications, product demonstration, display development, training and documentation are
just some of the reasons IMAGE-8820 is building a reputation in
"Advanced Concepts For Intelligent Control".
Remote Communications
Managers, engineers and supervisors all require access to the information displayed on the
real-time system. Technical requirements, size and cost constraints make it impractical
for an industrial terminal to be on each desk. However, desktop, portable or laptop
microcomputers are commonly found in these offices. With the IMAGE-8820's
built in modem support, key personnel can have access to this critical data, on or off
site, day or night. Using a Hayes compatible modem for off-site locations and IMAGE-8820's
autodial and telephone directory capabilities, the connection is established
automatically. |
Display Development
Display building just became much more efficient with the IMAGETOOLBOX
that is standard with every IMAGE-8820 product. Now graphics and
character screens can be generated and uploaded from independent microcomputer
workstations. Using the keyboard or a mouse, images can be designed and modified via the TOOLBOX.
Capabilities include color remapping, cut and paste, object drag, character attribute
redefinition, and the all important undo command. Once any common or complex shape
(including the entire screen display) is created it can then be saved in a library for
future use. Also included in the IMAGE-8820 product is a font editor
which can be used to create custom character sets.
Extended Capabilities
IMAGE-8820 offers extended
capabilities not usually associated with the
standard industrial color graphics terminal. For example, besides supporting standard
serial communication rates up through 19.2 KB, additional rates of 38.4 KB and 115.2 KB
may be used. An Ethernet interface will provide 10 MB per second rates of data transfer
within a local network. Other standard features of IMAGE-8820 utilized
the capabilities of the microprocessor to support memory or disk resident displays and
user defined macros. Scroll through soft keys give the user access to function buttons,
the IMAGE TOOLBOX, and screen print features. In environments where only
an operator workstation is required, IMAGE-8820 provides protected states
and auxiliary keyboard support.
