Synchronous Manufacturing

What is Synchronous Manufacturing?

In most ERP/MRP systems the materials planning is not coordinated with the production floor. Synchronous manufacturing merges material planning (MRP) with finite capacity scheduling (FCS).

What are the benefits?

  • Material planning is tied to actual production planning.

  • More effective control of smaller material inventories.

  • Pick tickets by operation and location.

  • Better understanding of WIP costs.

How is it done?

Through route/material association. In plain English, the items on a BOM are assigned to the operation steps on the route where they will actually be used! Schedule the steps - schedule the material!

How does it work with our product configurator?

The modular question is assigned to a route step as a place holder. When the choice is made the component is automatically substituted for the place holder. This method allows one part/route association to serve many different product configurations. Adding new choices to a modular bill does not affect the part/route association.

Where is the scheduling information integrated with the material planning?

Both the Planning and MRP reports optionally allows either the Trial or the Implemented scheduling information to be used.
