The following
enhancements for ALERE have been designed as aids used in the management
of inventory. They will help eliminate the accumulation of obsolete or
slow moving inventory and they will also reduce the number of lost sales,
thereby improving Inventory Turns and ROI.
Superseding
Parts enhances ALERE by
tracking superseding and superseded inventory items. Whenever an Item
number is entered (in Sales, Purchases and Inventory) a browse list of all
related superseded and superseding items and their QOH is displayed. This
enhancement provides an easy way to use and not reorder superseded items
for inventory. This enhancement also reduces lost sales by supplying the
superseding item number at the time the Sales Order or Purchase Order is
being created.
Alternate
Parts
enhances ALERE by
tracking alternate inventory items. This reduces lost sales if there is no
inventory on hand for the ordered item, but an alternate item is available
from inventory. Alternate items are usually found in inventory when
duplicate brands are stocked.
Use
(Substitute) Items enhances
ALERE to provide a simple technique for handling a situation where sales
of multiple item numbers are satisfied by shipments of a
"generic" inventory item. Example: A Mercedes, BMW, Ford and
Buick may use the same front wheel inner ball bearing, but they each have
their own item number and very different prices. The seller may prefer to
stock "generic" ball bearings, but he wishes to sell the
bearings under the vehicle manufacturer’s item number. When an order is
entered or shipped for one of these bearings, the inventory level of the
"generic" inventory is affected, but the invoice will show the
vehicle manufacturer’s item number. In addition, the SO and Invoice show
the price for vehicle manufacturer’s item number, but the cost is that
of the "generic" item number.
The following
enhancement for ALERE is useful when the default 60 character description
field is not large enough.
Extended
Description
enhances ALERE to
provide an extended description which will be displayed in the "Line
Note" field in the "Sales" modules and will be printed on
the Sales Order and the Invoice. This differs from the descriptions that
can be stored with the images available in ALERE.
The following
enhancement for ALERE is an important feature where items are sold which
require the return of the old unit, such as when selling refurbished,
rebuilt or remanufactured items.
Cores
is an enhancement for the ALERE "Sales" module designed to track
the sale and return of cores. A core is the used part that is refurbished,
rebuilt or remanufactured for resale, as an alternative to a new item. The
core usually has a cost and selling price. The most prevalent challenges

enhancement for ALERE has been designed to provide real time processing of
shipping and shipping charges.
Freight-Charges
is a link which provides real time access between ALERE and StarShip (www.vtechnologies.com).
When shipping, simply enter the order number and StarShip retrieves the
ship-to name and address, P.O. Number, ship-via and more. StarShip even
makes your accounting department more efficient by automatically updating
orders with freight charges and tracking information. This real-time
integration allows you to include shipping charges and costs on an
invoice, so it can be invoiced immediately after the order has been
shipped. Just think about what this will do to improve your operation.
