The HTML manual cannot be viewed when the Help button is selected.

The problem is caused by the Microsoft Security Update 896358. The update apparently prevents CHM (compiled HTML files) from being viewed when they are being loaded from a network drive or remote server.

The solution is to copy the manual (aleremanual.chm or workshop.chm) to the TIWRUN directory on each local work station. Then follow these instructions.

  1. Start the program (ALERE or WorkShop) and go to Manager > System Tools > Access FoxPro.
  2. On the command line type in USE WSHOOKS and select the Enter key.
  3. Then type in BROW and select the Enter key.
  4. Add a record by holding down the Ctrl key and hitting Y.
  5. In the Hookname column enter STARTUP (in caps) then use the Tab key to move to the next field.
  6. Enter SET HELP TO (enter the path to TIWRUN and the program). Example: C:\TIWRUN\ALEREMANUAL.CHM or C:\TIWRUN\WORKSHOP.CHM
  7. Save the record by holding down the Ctrl key and hitting W.
  8. Type USE and select the Enter key.
  9. Type EXIT and select the Enter key.
  10. You should be back in the program and ready to use the HTML manual. This only needs to be done once for each product on the server.
